THE MEADOW<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s easy to arrive at the answer here<\/strong>
in the sibilant shush and click<\/strong>
of tall grasses worked by the wind,<\/strong>
like the source of sand pouring from a bucket.<\/strong>
The field is a sum of the sun,<\/strong>
a total of stems under slender reeds,<\/strong>
and unruly burnt brown summer tassels.<\/strong>
It becomes tide and tickle<\/strong>
of warm air on the tops of my hands,<\/strong>

Silence speaks the loudest here.<\/strong>
Its tongue is golden and mint green.<\/strong>
There\u2019s no commotion in the slow motion<\/strong>
of shallow spring-warmed creeks winding<\/strong>
along the fresh or salt water ways.<\/strong>
How does a meadow move you?<\/strong>
I rustle and glide<\/strong>
like a low swooping bird–<\/strong>
seeking nothing but the welcome of distance,<\/strong>
wild streaks and strands<\/strong>
of phragmites and birch boughs–<\/strong>
